“My goal with the LifeSpace app was to help myself make room for rest this past semester. I keep busy not only with school, but also with work and extracurricular activities.
Although I love being busy, it sometimes leads to me having no time for myself. This in turn leads to feelings of being overwhelmed and burnt out.
LifeSpace is like my Accountability Partner, helping me stay focused on what’s important”Rebekah Baughman, Student at Emporia State University
In order to help myself make room for rest, I used the LifeSpace app to make a checklist of things to do at least once a week to allow myself to rest. This checklist was to be only for things that I was doing for myself–not for school or work or anyone else, including yoga, taking a bubble bath, creative writing, watching a movie, reading a book that is not school-related, and more.
Throughout the semester I was able to add things to the list and make sure to check them off as they were done. I starred the ones I found myself enjoying the most. Having the app on my phone allowed me to always have the checklist at hand and remember to take time for myself. In the app I am able to add notes and thoughts that come to me as I give myself time to rest. In the future I can even add more members so that I can have a group of friends making room for rest in their lives with me!
I call this app my accountability partner because it reminds me to take time to rest and allows me to document my journey towards a more balanced life. When my life is more balanced, I am better able to focus on my goals both personal and professional, succeeding more as student this semester. With the Lifespace app I am making space for the things that matter to me.
