Rebecca is Making Space for Dreams

Posted on May 15, 2020May 15, 2020

“At the genesis of my college career, I chose a university and a major that I thought I was supposed to choose, which others wanted me to choose, and which never really made me happy. After transferring to a university where I felt like I truly belong, I realized I was still in a major where I didn’t. I’ve never had a clear-cut career goal, but I also never really got to explore my interests till now. Now I’m working on allowing myself to try new things and get outside of my comfort zone because I want to figure out what my interests are and where my strengths lie. So far, I’ve been progressing from doing what others think I should do, to figuring out for myself what I’m really meant to do.”

I’ve spent a majority of my life cultivating my personality and goals based on what others would think of me and making others happy which is an unhealthy way to live. Life is too short to neglect your dreams and waste your days trying to be someone you’re not.

How would you like to inspire others?

As corny as it may sound, literally allowing yourself to dream makes all the difference. I found that I wouldn’t allow myself to dream or desire certain things if they seemed too out-of-reach or outlandish. I was literally robbing myself of one of the only joys that anyone and everyone can afford. Literally just imagining your dream life is a great way to start visualizing your goals and desires. You my not have a clear image of what those desires might be, so it could help to explore different options and opportunities online. Look at job boards and see what your dream jobs might entail. Go to travel websites and look at flights or hotels of places you want to travel. Look at house-hunting websites to see what your dream house might look like. And if all else fails, Pinterest is a good place to find all of the above and more! But the biggest thing to remember is that, the world is abundantly full of opportunities and options, and even if it hasn’t been done yet, anything you want to do is possible and never too far out of reach.
