“I am a firm believer that one must pursue their passion. One must take initiative in trying new things in order to discover what makes them happy. As an introvert, I was not able to discover what I loved until I finally tried to branch out of my comfort zone. I tried pursuing many interests including surfing, film, photography, and traveling, which allowed me to pick out what made me happy. Perhaps more importantly, the domino effect of trying new things allowed me to keep that energy going forward until challenging myself became the new normal.”

Share your journey and why this is important to you
Being able to remove myself from comfortable daily routines in order to take on new challenges allows me to discover myself and my capabilities more deeply. Living a complacent life is something that many people, including myself, are guilty of due to the comfort of familiarity. Pushing myself past my comfort zone will not only make me more in touch with my capabilities–it will also get me closer to achieving my goals.

How would you like to inspire others?
Take time to reflect on what your passions are. Perhaps it’s easily-identifiable, writing or working out. If it isn’t, though, if you cannot pinpoint what your passion is, it’s time to get out of your comfort zone and attempt something new. Perhaps what you try won’t turn out to be a passion, but it’s better to try and fail than to not try at all. The passions you find will outweigh the failures, but the failures are equally important, since they help shape your character and reveal your capabilities.
