Sara is Making Space for Creative Hobbies

Posted on July 21, 2020July 21, 2020

“In this recent time of uncertainty, it’s grown much more important to find ways of engaging myself in simple pursuits that work to ease the mind. It’s remains necessary to pay attention to the world around me, in order to act as a competent member of society. However, fulfilling personal and relaxation time shows itself to be equally as vital to a healthy lifestyle. Through creative endeavors such as journaling, sewing, baking, gardening, and more, I lessened my stress by allowing creativity to flow positively and invest time in myself.”

The monotony of escapism through media like streaming subscriptions or the never-ending feed of popular social media outlets quickly grew tiresome. I spent days indoors doing nothing substantial in my leisure time, and it gave me a feeling of wastefulness that urged inner change. I started finding recipes to try, discovering that I am able to actively engage in something fun that brings about the reward of a new dish. In the same way, designing my own clothing and watching it come together one stitch at a time gives me immense satisfaction in my own ability to create. Sometimes, I make mistakes while pursuing these activities, but rather than being stressful, they are thrilling opportunities to overcome challenges with my thinking skills.

How would you like to inspire others?

The times we live in now are so different from the way we lived a year ago, but that’s what gives us opportunities for new experiences. Small, meaningful trials of creativity can spark the beginning of a staple hobby, one you can always come back to. Whether you feel the urge to try an interesting cookie recipe or find yourself wanting to aide in the blossom of flowers on your veranda, I believe that these personal goals are worthwhile and can help positivity flourish daily. Starting out with nothing and ending with a shirt you sewed or a vibrant painting on a once white canvas gifts us a beautiful sense of accomplishment, so I implore each of us to let our creativity escape our minds to brighten the world around us.
