What area are you “making space” for?
“Mental health is something that affects every single person. At some point, everyone will either struggle with their mental health or know somebody that is struggling. I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and the stigma attached to mental illness only exacerbates the issues it can cause.”
Elizabeth Whitcomb, Student at DePaul University

Share your journey and why this is important to you
It started with dizzy spells. I would be sitting in class and all the sudden feel as if I was Dorthy in a tornado.
After trips to neurologists and an array of specialists, I was diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder, and I started on medication which drastically changed my life. The dizzy spells went away and the frequency of my panic attacks decreased immensely.
The diagnosis also allowed me to become more aware of my surroundings. I recognized that my own school fostered an environment in which students such felt pressure to succeed that it led to mental health problems. My journey with mental health has sparked a passion to spread awareness.

I hope to inspire others to take time for their mental health. Imbalances in chemicals in the brain can impact any individual’s physical and mental well-being.
