For me, 2019 means a year of facing challenges. A year full of changes.
Last year I got to graduate and get my bachelor’s degree as a biomedical engineer. Although it was a very exciting time, it was also a watershed moment in my life that made me realize my professional life had just begun.
As exciting as that sounds, I realized I still wasn’t very clear about where I wanted to go from here. I am taking this year to commit to discovering my path and my purpose.
At the beginning of the year, I decided to start a process to be admitted to a research program in a Harvard laboratory, and guess what! I got in! One of my many dreams came true and now I’m in HARVARD! I still can’t believe it.
Being here, I have realized that I still have a lot to give and better yet, I have many tools at my fingertips to increase my potential. So recently, I have set new goals, such as developing an application and eventually owning my own technology company.
But my mind does not rest, and there is an artistic side that is always shouting at me “please do not neglect me”, so I am also focusing on making a great space for cultural activities such as dancing and writing as well.
The road that I have traveled has not been completely full of roses and sweetness. I have worked hard and I have searched many places to obtain resources and the necessary support and during this journey, I have realized that the crucial skills that has helped me reach my goals and that will help me achieve my dreams is organization, perseverance and responsibility.
Making space for all those projects that I want to do is very important for me right now because I feel it is now when I have the resources to do them. I am in a magical place. I have excellent friends and acquaintances that will help me to achieve my goals and I have the rare opportunity in life to dedicate myself, to listen and to value what I want and what I dream.

How would you like to inspire others?
Looking at my classmates, my colleagues and my teachers, I realize that we are all different and have different ways of learning and seeing life but there is advice we can all benefit from:
- Always be yourself and concentrate on finding and living your passion
- Do not stress yourself over minor or unimportant details
- Do not focus so much on making money in the early years. If you work on what you love, the money will come along
- Meet other people, make contacts, make friends. Student and work-life becomes better if you are next to someone with whom you feel comfortable and happy
- Set goals and have clear objectives so you can plan your actions based on a specific outcome
- Don’t be so hard on yourself when you don’t know the answer. Remember that nobody is born knowing anything so we should make space for learning and growing
- Be confident in yourself. There is no one else like you. Nobody can do things the same way you do them. You are special and if you work with perseverance and dedication, everything is possible
